Reaper Bones Unicorn Painted - Narnia Project Continues

Couldn't sleep, so I did something productive. Here he is - the somewhat finished Reaper Bones unicorn. I did quite a bit of experimenting and learning with this figure. While he didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted, I'm calling it good for tonight as it is after 2:00 in the morning.

Again, I'm feeling really pleased with the quality of Reaper's plastic line. This is my second model from that line and I have no complaints.

Here's a photo of the unicorn standing between a couple of other horse-ish models for size reference. On his right, our left, is Arwen on horseback from GW. On his left, our right, is a centaur. The unicorn is quite a bit bigger than the GW horse, and noticeably bigger than the centaur mini. While this might irritate some people, I kind of like him being so tall. It makes him look powerful.

And here again is the group, the unicorn being the seventh addition. I feel like I'm becoming a better painter as I go through this process. It'll be interesting to see the difference in paint job quality from the first figure to the last. :)

My projected Narnian army continues to grow in my mind. Through a continued scouring of the web, I've been putting together a list that includes fauns, various wild animals (including bears, big cats, deer, hawks, and mice), flying horses, dwarfs, and when the time is right, a proper Lion. I've also managed to find models that will work for Peter, Edmund, and Lucy, but I'm having some difficulty finding a suitable model to represent Susan. I'll keep searching though.

I've also begun a sister list for a White Witch army - wolves, minotaurs, Queen Jadis, etc. It's almost been as fun searching for the right minis as it has been painting them. :)

Virgo by Reaper Minis... as a Narnian Dryad

The sixth addition to my Narnian army - a Reaper Mini Virgo. When I saw this mini I knew that it would make a perfect Dryad - a wood nymph or tree spirit - for my Narnia project. The metal figure itself only cost me a little over two bucks, making this a fantastic and cost-effective piece. I'm really starting to like Reaper, let me tell ya.

 Next in the painting queue - another Reaper Bones product - a Unicorn. Feeling pretty stoked. In this sculpt the horn curves back. I wasn't sure if I liked that at first, but it's starting to grow on me. Not sure how I'm going to paint it yet, but I'm thinking of departing from the standard snow white to something a little more original. We'll see.

Reaper Bones Werewolf - Painted

I must say, I'm rather impressed with the model, despite it being a soft plastic. It took paint deliciously well, I loved not having to pin/glue anything together, and I'm feeling rather satisfied with how the finished product looks. Well, it's actually not finished... darn it all, I've started to feel like I need to do more with basing than just leaving it plain or painting it. And I haven't got anything but green flock, and this model seems to demand snow. So I'll likely be picking up some snow in a jar the next time I stop by the old hobby store.

Celtic Woad Warpaint Centaurs

Presenting... Blue Warpaint Centaurs! I'm not certain I'm done yet. I'm going to let it sit for a bit and see what other inspiration leads me to add or subtract. I'm least happy with how the spotted horse turned out, it just looks like a mess to me. But the male archer and the female spear-centaur look okay. (I need to give them names or something...)

Centaurs

Some centaurs I have yet to paint - thinking of doing a HoTT army in Narnia style. That, or tweaking the rules from the LOTR SBG to work for different figures. I've always liked the LOTR SBG rules.

So, I've been tossing ideas around in my head, and I think I've settled on making them into Celtic centaurs - painting them with blue woad war paint. Something like this:

 Cool, huh? I'm very much looking forward to this project.

The Invisible Man - by Reaper Minis

 My favorite part of this model? The steampunk goggles. I love the empty sleeves, too, and the way his coat is bunched up in front like he's grabbing it.
